Update from the President of the Tennessee Parent Teacher Association
Dear Board of Managers, Parents, Community Leaders and Friends,
As I reach the end of my term as your Tennessee PTA President, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support, teamwork, dedication, and passion for fulfilling the mission of PTA.
My Board of Managers was awesome and I appreciate each one of them! The Board is a wonderfully diverse group of people who worked together as a team to make a difference in the lives of children across the state. I'm probably, as of now anyway, the only State President who began a term with 10 men on the team. Working together we encouraged the "300 Hours of Power" for men in Tennessee.
With this caliber of teamwork we were able to receive a STEM Grant, participate in the School of Excellence Program, the School Family Reading Program, Learning Heroes Program and the Smart Talk Program. We also presented numerous, well-deserved student awards for Reflections and Citizenship programs at the annual convention.
Parents had the opportunity to take advantage of valuable leadership training as the Summer Leadership Team traveled across the state. Winter Conferences, President's Roundtables and Convention were all a great success. Advocating for children is a centerpiece of Tennessee PTA. Advocacy is supporting and speaking up for all children around the enactment, implementation and enforcement of legislation that will improve the lives of our boys and girls. I want to thank all those who worked tirelessly in these efforts. One of the highlights each year is when students get involved. Tennessee PTA sponsored the "Students Storm the Hill" event with hundreds of middle and high students traveled from all over the state to Nashville to see how Bills become a "law" in action. They met with their State Legislators, had pictures taken with the Governor and shared their concerns during a "mock session" and tour of the Capitol. What a memorable day that was for all involved.
I've been proud to serve as your Tennessee PTA State President for the last two years and am looking forward to watching the new, incoming officers carry on the work as they move forward in achieving PTA's mission.
Have a good summer and best wishes for all your future endeavors.
